The Mexican-American War saw its conflict from 1846-1848. The war arose from the United States' eagerness to expand its borders, and stretch from coast to coast. When the Mexican army noticed General Zachary Taylor's forces camped along the Rio Grande, tensions escalated and the battle ensued as the Mexican forces attacked an American patrol on April 23, 1846. In less than one month, President Polk addressed congress and war was declared on May 13, 1846.
